I have been a TERRIBLE blogger...but I am back and promise to blog more. I have so much going on...mostly wedding related.
Today is the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. It will be a date that I know my children will study and will ask me the details. There are a handful of days I remember very vividly, 9/11 is one of those days. Everyone has their story of that day...here is mine.
9/11/2001 I was 14 and had just started my freshman year of high school in Marietta Ga. I remember hearing teachers and people talking about something had happened in New York/DC. This was 2nd period so about 9:30ish. After that class I heard lots of people talking about it. I even remember who told me originally - his name was Andrew and he was walking backwards towards class and told a group of us. By the time I got to 3rd period the teacher had it on TV. This was math class, needless to say we didnt do any math that day. We sat through that class with our eyes glued on the TV. I sat with a friend of mine waiting on word that his dad, an American Airlines pilot, was ok. Thank God he was and got the news by the end of 3rd period. The whole day and rest of the week we did nothing but watch the news and discuss what had happened. A lot of students parents took them out of school that day.
My mom and now stepdad were suppose to have their first date that day. Obviously it was canceled, especially since he is from New York and his brother is now a retired NYPD detective. Thank God again no one in my future family was hurt.
I am also blessed that Michael was not hurt that day. He was 20 and living in Pennsylvania and working as an EMT. He was waiting at the local hospital to hear if he had to go up to New York or DC. He wasnt called.
One thing that I do remember that has seemed to disappear is the unity we all shared. Everyone was on the same team, No political BS. I wouldnt mind going back to that mentality.
